We have a long history in the Automotive Smash Repair Industry, for the last 10 years I (Gary McDonald) have owned and operated a successful Smart Repair business that specialises in small repairs on late model cars www.gripmoto.com.au
Matt Chamberlain does most of the repair work. Matt and I worked together several years ago in the Smart Repair business, he then went off to work as a trainer for a paint company then got his own business in the Motor Cycle industry, performing paint repairs, along with carbon fiber and fibreglass repairs. When paint my bike got too big for me alone he was the first person I thought of and now believes this is his perfect job. He sure is great at it!
Paint my bike has been started because of our passion for cycling and demands from our fellow riders!
I can't stand riding a bike that has issues whether that is something that won’t change gears properly, creaks or has a scratch on it. So if my bikes ever get scratched I repair the damage as soon as I get the chance. We can repair the damage and have the bike back in the bunch the next morning, my fellow riders would see the results and couldn’t believe it could be done without damaging decals, painting large areas or being able to see any trace of the damage and most importantly the speed we can complete repairs. One ride the damage is there, next morning the bike is back in the bunch finished.

The usual comment is “how do you do that” to which my answer always is “that is just what we do!” We’ve always done it on cars and now we are using the same technology on bikes. I never saw it as a big deal. It was not long before the requests came, can you repair this for me? I want my fixie repainted will you do it? At first I ducked and weaved and only did it for close friends, because as any spray painter knows the line up of “mates” wanting their car painted is never ending……But as time went on I actually found I enjoy repairing bike frames WAY more than cars, guess I am just more interested in bicycles, or maybe they are just a lot smaller!
Or maybe it is just that cycling has been bred into me, check the picture on the left it is my Great Great Grand Father James King, as the story goes he is the Springsure to Rolleston record holder, not sure if it is fact or fiction, but it sure is a great pic!!
